Be sure to describe your entry as detailed as possible. This is the information that will be read as your entry passes the reviewing stand.

This year to honor our men and women who make the sacrifice and many the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy our freedoms, please keep in mind all entries must reflect and represent a patriotic presentation. Music: patriotic theme, Float colors: Red, White & Blue, Flags: USA. (No Foreign Flags, or Music)

All entries participating in your group should include a complete description of costumes, uniforms, vehicle’s age and number of participants: (attach additional ages if necessary)
Number of years of participation in the Canoga Park Memorial Day Parades:

All entries and entry fees must be postmarked no later than May 10th, 2009. Absolutely no entries accepted after May 10, 2009, or without entry fee.

Parade Route: Begins at the corner of Sherman Way and Owensmouth Ave. and proceeds east to DeSoto Avenue. Right turn – south on to DeSoto to Hart (Quimby Park). The parade ends at DeSoto and Hart. The route is now 1 mile long.

Floats: Must meet L.A. City Fire Department Safety Requirements as per L.A.M.C. SEC 57.22.05. Floats not decorated in accordance with the theme will be disqualified. All floats must be towable.

Vehicles: Must comply with DMV regulations and be street legal.

Judging: Parade Judging will now take place prior to the parade*. All entries wanting to be judged must be in the judging area at 8:00 a.m. The judging area will be on Gault Street and Owensmouth Ave. Sign – in will begin at 7:45 a.m. Judge’s decisions are final unless properly protested. Any protests must be in writing and signed by the group representative of record. All protests must be mailed to the Parade Chair for review.   Winners of each group will be mailed certificates and ribbons at the end of the event. Equestrian judging will take place on Owensmouth in the Equestrian Staging Area.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

The Parade starts at 11:00 a.m. sharp! Any unit not in staging area by 10:00 a.m. will be excluded from the Parade.

All units must maintain forward motion. There is no judging during the parade.

All participants must be in uniform, costume or properly attired in the spirit of the theme.

All entries are requested to complete the entire Parade route. All units are required to maintain their given position in the lineup. Should a unit break down, please go around. Continue on route and maintain your position.

The Parade Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry, and their decision on acceptance is final. The Committee must approve rule waivers in writing at least one week prior to Parade Day.

Any entry consisting solely of advertising or expressing political viewpoints will be disqualified and removed from the Parade. No political groups or causes will be allowed in the Parade.

The check–in-table at the corner of Sherman Way and Owensmouth opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes promptly at 10:00 a.m.

Parade judging will begin at 8:00 a.m. before the parade begins. All entries must be prepared to perform.

The Parade Committee accepts no responsibility for improper or false unit designations or statements made by the Parade entrants.

All units are required to carry a unit identification number issued the day of the Parade and must be displayed by that unit number at all times on the front of the unit.

The distribution of literature, samples, fruit, candy or gifts of any kind is strictly forbidden and will result in immediate removal from the Parade. Public address systems are barred unless specifically used for music for that entry and must not interfere with other units. City regulations forbid the throwing/tossing of materials from the Parade entries along the Parade route to the crowd on the sidelines.

The Canoga Park Memorial Day Parade is a "Rain or Shine" event for the community.
